Donna Reed may have won an Academy Accolade for "From Hither to Eternity," but the actress is best known for "Information technology's Wonderful Life."
The 1946 Frank Capra Christmas archetype stars Jimmy Stewart as George Bailey. Reed plays Stewart's wife, Mary Hatch Bailey. In the motion-picture show, an angel shows George Bailey what life would have been like had Bailey not been born.
Reed was built-in Donna Belle Mullenger on a farm southeast of Denison, Iowa, in 1921. She was signed past MGM afterwards winning beauty competition in Los Angeles.
Reed starred in a number of films in the 1940s, but she won critical acclaim — and an Oscar for All-time Supporting Actress — for the World War Ii drama "From Here to Eternity." Reed played a prostitute in the 1953 film.
Reed died of pancreatic cancer in 1986.
